Farmsgiving!

Unfortunately, we're never at Carleton for most of the big, fun holidays. But last Thursday night, exactly one week before the real Thanksgiving, we celebrated Farmsgiving at Farm House. We, and dozens of our closest friends, enjoyed your typical Thanksgiving feast — turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, pies, and more — in the comfort of the Farm House basement, wonderfully transformed for the occasion.

Enjoy the pictures! And, because Roy insisted, below the photos is a sonnet I wrote to commemorate the occasion. My apologies for the morbid turkey imagery.

Blues in the Basement

This weekend, people came from all over the place to dance to swing and blues in our basement.

Old stuff!

Found this video! And one more, but I'm going to save it for when we have lull in posts.

More Pictures From Harvest Fest

Harvest Fest was last weekend, which already seems like forever ago. But here are some pictures of what we did that day. I made four apple pies, which were a lot of work but tasted amazing (and disappeared fast!).

We harvested potatoes, squash, a few tomatoes, and a miscellany (kale, kohlrabi, peppers) that grew among the summer's weeds. Some of us also built a new three-bin compost system to replace our old (highly technical) "pile of junk" system. Here we are in the garden:

And here are some of the fruits of our labors. Plenty of potatoes!

Windy afternoon

It's dry, hot and very windy- there's a burn ban in effect this weekend for Rice County. The weather report says we might get thunderstorms tomorrow.
